Lemon Water Elixir Recipe: Your Daily Kickstart

This delicious drink is one of my daily staples to kickstart my digestion, clear my natural detoxification pathways, boost my immune system, clear my skin and keep check on my weight. There is no need for expensive, processed shakes in the morning as this drink is made with all natural lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, water, sea salt and honey, meaning it’s cost-effective and yet so easy to throw together and a provide a fantastic, tasty, zingy start to the day!

Lemon Juice in water is just such an awesome start to the day as it:

1. Helps digestion: by flushing the digestive system and rehydrating the body to get your body and mind going

 

2. Gives A Natural Flush: the liver is extremely active during sleep since sleep is the body’s time to restore and regenerate. Drinking water with lemon, especially in the morning, helps make sure that the body can perform these jobs most effectively. There is evidence that lemon juice can help stimulate proper stomach acid production and bile production. Benefits to your body: A happy liver and lymph system- yay!

3. An Immune System Boost: Lemons contain Vitamin C, they also contain potassium. Drinking lemon water first thing in the morning gives the body a chance to absorb these vitamins effectively and can provide an immune boost.

4. Makes Happier Skin: by helping flush the body and improve digestion, lemon water can lead to cleaner skin. It also contains Vitamin C which is needed for collagen production for smooth, healthy skin.

5. Maintains a Healthy Weight: There is evidence that drinking lemon water first thing in the morning can help maintain a healthy weight. Of course, drinking lemon water by itself isn’t going to be a miracle weight loss solution, but with other healthy habits, it can help maintain a healthy weight. Win Win.

Vitamin C is also good for the adrenals and can potentially help reduce the affects of stress and to assist in this I have added a pinch of great quality sea salt, which can also be a fantastic tonic to the adrenals. In fact if your adrenals are low, salted water is more beneficial to your body than regular water. You will find that your body will guide you, if you find it too salty you don’t need it, but if salted water tastes better than plain then your adrenals are craving it!

The addition of apple cider vinegar to my elixir as it is a fermented wonder! With many of the same benefits of lemon juice, its addition gives a power punch to this Elixir, doubling up on benefits to the immune system, digestion, blood sugar levels, blood pressure levels, cleanses skin and detoxification pathways, boosts energy and keeps a lid on creeping weight gain, plus it tastes amazing!

So here it is, give it a try in the morning, its a perfect wake up on these beautiful Spring mornings!

LEMON WATER ELIXIR

1 cup room-temperature/warm water
Juice from 1 lemon
1 tablespoon raw apple cider vinegar (I use Braggs with the ‘mother’ in the bottom)

Dash of quality sea salt
1 teaspoon raw honey, maple syrup, or stevia to taste (optional)

Just mix and enjoy, makes one serve.

NOTE: If you feel nauseous or experience tightness in the chest after drinking the morning Elixir, please omit the raw apple cider vinegar. This reaction can occur when the body releases bacteria and toxins during detox. Continue to drink the Lemon Water Elixir, omitting the apple cider vinegar (or use only 1⁄2 teaspoon of ACV) for at least three days, and then reintroducing it. If the reactions continue upon reintroduction, continue to drink only the lemon water 🙂

    Great recipe for Gym going persons. I recommend everyone to use this recipe, especially in summers to protect yourself from dehydration.
