These are my absolute go-to, number one, without fail, always have them in the cupboard, biscuits.
Why? Because they are simple, nutritious and my kids love them- WINNER!
Refined sugar, gluten, dairy and egg free, these biscuits are packed with good fats and antioxidants and made with just three ingredients, macadamia nuts, cacao and dates.
Macadamias are
- rich in heart healthy monounsaturated fats, which lower cholesterol and control blood pressure and low in harmful omega 6 oils
- high in flavonoids, which convert to antioxidants in the body, antioxidants fight free radicals, inflammation, disease, cancer and ageing
- increase fat metabolism and reduce fat storage -yes!
- supply protein, calcium and potassium for healthy skin and nails
- high in fibre, contributing to roughage, prebiotics and gut health
- contain copper, magnesium and manganese which contribute to neurotransmitter and brain health
- delicious!
Cacao is
- incredibly high in antioxidants (yes those disease fighting agents again), with over 40 times the amount as blueberries!
- the highest plant-based source of iron, although being plant based remember to combine with a source of Vitamin C to absorb such as oranges, lemons, kiwis or superfood powders such as camu camu)
- one of the richest plant-based sources of magnesium, which is vital for a healthy heart and brain health and also happens to be one of the most deficient minerals in the Western world
- a natural source of the mood enhancing neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine- which is why good chocolate can help us feel so good
Dates are
- good for bowel health and regularity
- great for heart health by supplying fibre and roughage to the diet
- anti-inflammatory by being rich in that essential magnesium again
As you can see the benefits are incomparable to just munching a home brand biccie from the supermarket laden with refined sugar, gluten and preservatives!
The Recipe
- Simply measure 1 cup of macadamias, 1 cup of dates and 1 tablespoon of raw cacao into a powerful blender
- Blitz until mixed
- Remove with a spoon into ball sized portions and roll into bliss balls
- Place onto baking paper and press into biscuit shapes
- Pop into a pre warmed oven at 170 and bake for 10-12 minutes
- Allow to cool on a wire rack (resist the temptation to try as they will just fall apart)
- Devour!
