Turmeric is one of my absolutely favourite herbs, known as the “Queen of Spices” it is well known for its golden colour and sharp taste in cooking, but it is fast becoming recognised as one of the go to anti-inflammatory, pain-fighting, antiviral, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-cancer therapeutic herbs too. And this recipe is my favourite way to reap the benefits of turmeric in a delicious warming latte, its my version of the traditional Golden Milk that has been consumed for hundreds if not thousands of years in Indian food and traditional medicine.
Loaded with Vitamins C, E and K; potassium, calcium, magnesium, copper and zinc it can be used to treat a variety of health problems such as
- Preventing Cancer- the compounds in turmeric are preventative, protective and full of cancer fighting antioxidants
- Treating Arthritis- the anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric make it effective for rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, helping to relieve joint pain and inflammation and destroying the free radicals that attack the joints
- Controlling Diabetes- turmeric helps to moderate insulin levels, improves blood glucose control and helps to protect against insulin resistance
- Protecting against heart disease- turmeric can lower cholesterol levels, therefore lowering overall risk factor for heart attacks/strokes
- Boosting Immunity- a compound in turmeric can help to stimulate the body’s immune system and its antibacterial, anti fungal and antiviral actions also boost immune activity
- Healing Wounds- turmeric is a natural antiseptic and antibacterial agent and can also be used to treat inflammatory skin conditions such as psoriasis
And one more important point before I share this great recipe, to fully absorb and utilise the beneficial compounds from turmeric, then I advise that you mix it with one of three things, black pepper, a fat or quercetin. This recipe has the benefit of fat and black pepper, but bear this in mind if having turmeric in a juice that one of these three things need to be present in order to absorb the turmeric properly, this is because (among a few other reasons) turmeric has very poor solubility in water. The addition of cinnamon and ginger powders in this drink also greatly enhances your digestion too.
So onto the recipe, this makes 4 serves. In your blender mix up
- 2 cups of your milk of choice (I like almond, but cows, rice and soy all work well depending on your preference)
- 1 tsp ground turmeric powder (I like to use Planet Organic dried herbs and spices)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1 tsp raw honey (local, raw honey is best if you can source it)
- tiny pinch of black pepper
- 1/4 tsp ginger powder
- optional pinch of cayenne pepper if you like things spicy!
Then simply warm in a saucepan and serve immediately (if using a thermomix just mix then warm on 90 for 3 minutes)
I hope you enjoy this beautiful, comforting, healing latte, its a real favourite of mine,
In good health, Victoria xoxox

A note of warning: be careful if taking anti platelet or anticoagulant medication as turmeric can thin the blood, diabetics taking insulin also need to take care as turmeric lowers blood sugar levels- always consult your practitioner before taking turmeric in significant doses if taking these medications. Turmeric supplements also should be avoided by those pregnant or breastfeeding as turmeric can stimulate the uterus and promote menses.
